Patrícia Sousa
Application & Systems Integration Engineer

Patrícia C. Sousa is an Application & Systems Integration Engineer in Hanay’s research group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL). She holds a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, with focus on the flow behaviour of complex fluids in microfluidic environments, work that received the Iberian Award for the most distinguished thesis in Rheology.
Her current work involves the fabrication of advanced microfluidic platforms and the integration of sensors and actuators for real‑time biochemical and biophysical monitoring. Throughout her career, she has contributed to multidisciplinary international projects and led R&D activities in microfabrication, device integration, and sensor‑enabled microfluidic technologies. She works with nanoimprint lithography, soft lithography, surface nanoengineering, and additive fabrication methods to develop functional systems applied to lab‑on‑a‑chip devices, microfluidic diagnostics, and sensor‑integrated microsystems.
