Addressing today’s pressing health, food, and environmental challenges by combining biological knowledge with advanced engineering technologies.

Our research is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Developmental Goal 3: ‘Good Health and Well-being’. Across the food value chain, we work to improve nutrition, safety, authenticity, shelf-life, and taste, contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1: ‘No Poverty’, 2: ‘Zero Hunger’, 3: ‘Good Health and Well-being’, and 12: ‘Responsible Consumption and Production’.

Our research community collaborates with IT innovators, the financial sector, industries, consumers, associations, and stakeholders to drive open innovation across sectors. In health sciences, we tackle the world’s major health challenges—cancer, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases, along with aging-related conditions—by developing nano-bio-technologies for early, accurate diagnosis and personalized therapeutic strategies. Additionally, we address water safety by pioneering sensitive detection methods for toxins in water. Our goal is to promote cost-effective, accessible healthcare solutions, ensure food security, and safeguard environmental health for future generations. We aim to:

  • Contribute to citizens’ well-being and health using nano-bio-technologies,
  • Engineer new systems/strategies/devices for food nanomaterial digestion assessments, early and accurate diagnosis of diseases, and nanomaterial safety.
  • Develop new therapeutic approaches for personalised, effective treatment of diseases with fewer side effects, and
  • Promote a effective, accessible, and sustainable health, food, and environmental ecosystem for all.
