Adriano Pedro
Engineering Lead

Adriano Pedro is a Software Engineering Lead at Technology Engineering Group at INL, where he drives the conceptualisation, architecture, and development of cross-platform software solutions across web/cloud, desktop, and mobile applications. He leads the design of the software infrastructure for data acquisition, management, and distribution to analysis nodes, ensuring efficient data flows, queuing mechanisms, and the seamless integration of AI modules. His work leverages a robust stack including ElectronJS, Python, C++, and PHP/HTML5/JS/MySQL, enabling scalable, high-performance systems that support advanced scientific and engineering applications.
Adriano graduated in Applied Biology and began his career in 2003 as a Researcher in Animal Tissue Engineering with the 3Bs Research Group. During this period, he made significant contributions to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, with research dedicated to biomaterials for bone and cartilage tissue engineering, dynamic culturing systems, and the application of stem cells in regenerative therapies. His innovative work on hierarchical starch-based fibrous scaffolds and chitosan particle agglomerated scaffolds has been widely recognised and cited in the scientific community. He co-invented a patented dynamic system for culturing cells in three-dimensional supports and has authored numerous scientific publications, which together have been cited more than one thousand times.
His publications include works such as:
- Hierarchical starch-based fibrous scaffold for bone tissue engineering applications (Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, 2009)
- Chitosan particles agglomerated scaffolds for cartilage and osteochondral tissue engineering (Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2005)
- Development and characterization of a novel hybrid tissue engineering-based scaffold for spinal cord injury repair (Tissue Engineering Part A, 2010)
- Dynamic culturing of cartilage tissue: the significance of hydrostatic pressure (Tissue Engineering Part A, 2012)
- Patterning of polymer nanofiber meshes by electrospinning for biomedical applications (International Journal of Nanomedicine, 2007)
- Hydrostatic pressure culture system for human chondrocyte cultivation and stimulation in gellan gum hydrogel disks
- Patent: Dynamic systems for culturing cells in 3d supports
