Maria da Silva Relvas
Fellow
Maria Relvas was hired in 2020 as a Junior Research fellow within the Medical Devices Group at INL under the guidance of Dr. Sara Abalde-Cela and Dr. Lorena Dieguez. She is now developing research in plasmonic Gold nanostars as a substrate for Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering spectroscopy as novel and efficient diagnostic tools for diseases such as prostate cancer or Alzheimer’s and also for the detection, analysis and sorting of single cells encapsulated in droplets with the aid of microfluidic devices technology. She is also currently enrolled as a Materials Science PhD student in the University of Santiago de Compostela under the guidance of Dr. Pablo del Pino at CiQUS, Dr. Sara Abalde-Cela and Dr. Lorena Dieguéz.
Maria Relvas graduated from the University of Aveiro with a Master´s Degree in Physics Engineering in 2016. During her Master’s thesis she studied the production and characterization of nanoparticles, obtained by Pulsed Laser Ablation in Liquid Medium (PLAL) from persistent luminescent materials (ZnGa2O4: Cr3+) for biological imaging.
From 2017 to 2020 she worked as a research fellow in the University of Aveiro in projects associated to spectroscopic and morphological characterization of semiconductor materials.
