Prabir Kulabhusan
Fellow
Prabir Kulabhusan, Marie Sklodowska-Curie action (MSCA) Research fellow, joined the Food quality and safety Research group in February 2023. His project CHAMPION focuses on detecting the Noroviruses using a catalytic hairpin assembly of DNA and other functional nucleic acids.
Prabir holds a PhD degree in Biotechnology from Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, India. His research led him to develop a rapid and field-usable diagnostic kit for the White spot syndrome virus. This work earned him an Indian patent, which has been transferred to the industry for commercial use. He later worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Ottawa, Canada, Queens University Belfast, and at University of Oxford, where his work focused on biosensors and point-of-care diagnostics. His major research area includes the development of recognition probes (antibodies, peptides, and aptamers) paper-based diagnostics, and sensors for the detection of biomarkers, bacteria and viruses. He has presented at international conferences and authored several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. As a long-term goal, he intends to focus on translational research that can benefit the society.
